Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has dismissed rumours linking star striker Alexander Isak with a summer move to Liverpool, insisting the Swedish forward remains a key part of his plans at St James' Park.
Reports had suggested that Liverpool were considering a big-money move for the 24-year-old as they look to bolster their attacking options ahead of the new season. However, Howe was quick to shut down the speculation during his pre-match press conference.
"Alex is fully committed to Newcastle United," Howe stated emphatically. "He's been outstanding for us since joining, and we see him as a crucial player for our future ambitions."
Isak joined Newcastle from Real Sociedad in 2022 for a club-record £63 million and has since established himself as one of the Premier League's most exciting forwards. His combination of pace, technical ability and eye for goal has made him a fan favourite on Tyneside.
Why Liverpool Were Interested
The Reds' reported interest in Isak comes as no surprise given his impressive performances last season. The Swedish international scored 14 league goals despite missing several games through injury, showcasing his ability to perform at the highest level.
With Liverpool entering a new era under Arne Slot, the Merseyside club were believed to be exploring options to refresh their attacking line. However, Newcastle's firm stance and Isak's apparent happiness at the club appear to have cooled any potential deal.
Newcastle's Stance
Howe's comments reflect Newcastle's determination to keep hold of their prized assets as they look to build on last season's European qualification. The Magpies have already fended off interest in several players this summer as they aim to challenge for Champions League football again.
"We're not in the business of selling our best players," Howe added. "The project here is exciting, and players like Alex are central to that."
With the new Premier League season just weeks away, Newcastle fans will be relieved to hear their manager's strong words regarding Isak's future. The striker is expected to lead the line when the Magpies open their campaign against Southampton on August 17th.
