Harry Maguire will serve a one-match suspension for Manchester United's trip to Chelsea on Saturday after being found guilty of swearing at a fourth official. The defender admitted an FA misconduct charge and was fined £30,000 for his behaviour following his red card in March's 2-2 draw at Bournemouth.
The ban leaves manager Michael Carrick short of centre-backs for the visit to Stamford Bridge, with Lisandro Martinez and Matthijs de Ligt also unavailable. Martinez was sent off during Monday's 2-1 defeat to Leeds and faces a three-match suspension, though Carrick is considering an appeal.
Fourth official Matt Donohue reported Maguire shouted, "You're a joke. You're all a f***ing joke," as he left the pitch. Maguire admitted saying "it is a f***ing joke" but denied directing it at any official. The disciplinary commission believed Donohue's evidence, though Maguire apologised for his actions.
Maguire had already served a one-game ban for the red card, sitting out the Leeds defeat. With De Ligt still injured, 19-year-old Ayden Heaven and 20-year-old Leny Yoro are the only available specialist centre-backs for the Chelsea match.
