Harry Kane has revealed he uses visualisation techniques to prepare for matches and has pictured himself lifting the World Cup this summer. The England captain, speaking to L'Equipe, said his ambition to deliver the trophy for England burns brighter than ever, despite the pressure of a major tournament.
Visualisation as a Psychological Tool
Kane, now at Bayern Munich, explained how he employs visualisation to ready himself for specific games. "I try to picture the stadium I'll be playing in, the type of opponent I'll be facing, my position on the pitch, and the kinds of chances I might create for myself," he said. "That said, I'd be lying if I said I've never imagined myself lifting the World Cup."
The striker acknowledged England's near misses in recent tournaments, including two European Championship finals (2021 and 2024), a World Cup semi-final (2018), and a quarter-final (2022). He stressed the importance of creating a protective "bubble" during the tournament to block out external noise from pundits and media.
Working with Thomas Tuchel
Kane also praised England head coach Thomas Tuchel, with whom he worked at Bayern Munich. "At Bayern, I absolutely loved his personality, his ideas for the team, and the way he utilised me on the pitch," Kane said. "In a way, he has successfully translated those methods to the national team."
The England captain believes the squad can handle the pressure, citing the new coach and fresh players as reasons for optimism. "The key is to be clear about the team's objectives and the means to achieve them," he added. "You have to train well and foster a protective environment within the training camp—one that won't shatter at the first setback."
