His award-winning year was defined by two major achievements: completing the career Grand Slam by winning The Masters at Augusta in April, and then spearheading Luke Donald's European team to Ryder Cup victory at Bethpage Black five months later.
In an emotional acceptance speech at the BBC's MediaCity headquarters in Salford, McIlroy dedicated his award to his family. "2025 has been the year I made my dream come true, from Augusta to the Ryder Cup and everything else in between," he said. "My wife Erica, my daughter Poppy – they’re what holds me together, my rock.
