Fury brands Joshua 'weak' over Davison reunion

Tyson Fury has branded Anthony Joshua 'weak' after his rival confirmed his plan to team up with trainer Ben Davison again.

The two heavyweight hard-hitters are expected to finally end their decade-long feud in Cardiff on December 11. Ahead of the all-British clash, Joshua dropped a major bombshell after revealing that he would be reuniting with Fury's old trainer Davison.

Joshua's coaching changes

Joshua left the legendary coach after he was brutally knocked out by Daniel Dubois two years ago. The Brit joined forces with Oleksandr Usyk's team for his two recent wins - back-to-back knockout victories over Jake Paul and Kristian Prenga. But just months after knocking out Prenga, the 36-year-old has changed teams once again.

Davison famously cornered Fury for five fights - including the heavyweight's epic draw with Deontay Wilder back in 2018. The coach famously helped the Morecambe scrapper out of his drink-and-drug fuelled depression and back to the ring.

Fury's verdict

Following the recent news, it did not take long for the 'Gypsy King' to weigh in and offer his verdict. Fury - a former two-time world champion - told Boxing News: "It's the same Ben Davison he left because he wasn't good enough one fight ago. I don't make anything of it to be fair. He left Ben Davison for a reason now he's gone back begging him to train him. Mentally weak is what I see."

But Joshua believes his decision will pay dividends and is adamant that Davison's guidance will allow him to score a historic victory on fight night. "When I take time out to think about this Tyson Fury fight, I observe Ben Davison will add massive value to what I already know," he told talkSPORT.

"And what I already know is enough, but I want to land the perfect punch on Fury. We are going to look, identify and execute and deliver on my expectation to knock Tyson Fury out. And Ben Davison will help me become the guy to pin Tyson Fury to the canvas."

Advice from Fury's uncle

Joshua has also revealed he has been taking advice from Fury's uncle Peter - who led his nephew to his first world title. "I speak to Peter. He's willing to help me as well," Joshua said. "He has given me ideas about our training and about how I can approach the fight. Everybody wants me to win and everybody's going to tell me how to win."

Further speaking about his decision to reunite with Davison, he added: "I'm at a stage in my life now where everybody better shut up and listen to me when it comes to boxing because I've learned more than most people and most coaches now.

"When I sat back and I observed this, I realised Ben Davison will be a big addition to this fight with what he can add to helping me beat Tyson Fury. He's very good at pinpointing certain things leading up to a fight that I can execute and exploit. I believe Ben Davison will get me that one step closer to landing the perfect punch to pin Fury to the ground."
