Fulham's Silva Savours 'Big Win' After Ending Losing Streak at Sunderland

Marco Silva hailed a "big win" as Fulham secured a crucial 3-1 Premier League victory at Sunderland, lifting them to 10th in the table and ending a three-game losing run. The Cottagers became only the second team this season, after Liverpool, to beat Sunderland at the Stadium of Light in league competition.

Jimenez Brace Sparks Fulham's Comeback

Following a lacklustre first half from both sides, the match sprang into life after the interval. Raul Jimenez scored twice in just seven minutes, first heading home from Alex Iwobi's corner and then converting a penalty to put Fulham in control.

Enzo Le Fee gave Sunderland hope with a penalty of his own, but Iwobi sealed the three points in the 85th minute with a composed finish into the corner, capping a swift counter-attack.

Silva Praises Team's Resilience and Quality

Reflecting on the performance, Silva emphasised the importance of bouncing back from recent poor results. "Big win, we knew that it was going to be another crucial game for us and it was going to be very important to come from some not good results in the Premier League," he said.

"After an incredible run during January and December too, we wanted to bounce back in a place that has been very difficult for all the teams to play against Sunderland."

Silva highlighted the third goal as a particular highlight, praising Harry Wilson's role in the build-up and Iwobi's finish. "We scored the third goal in an incredible moment from us, very good counter-attack, everything Harry Wilson did until the moment of the pass was brilliant. Top finishing from Alex."

He added credit to Sunderland for making life difficult, noting injuries on both sides contributed to a tough contest.

Sunderland's Le Bris Laments 'Tough Day'

Sunderland manager Regis Le Bris described it as a "tough day" as his side slipped to a third successive league defeat. The Black Cats lost Nordi Mukiele and Jocelin Ta Bi to injury in the first half, disrupting their rhythm.

Le Bris pointed to key moments defining the game, including missed chances and Fulham's efficiency from set-pieces. "We had the opportunity during the second half to score and just after they scored twice on set-pieces," he said.

"Probably our first half wasn't controlled enough, we struggled to find the right rhythm. We got two injuries, which didn't help, but we were probably a bit sloppy, lack of quality with the ball."

Despite a positive reaction after half-time, Le Bris acknowledged Fulham's quality in capitalising on opportunities, underscoring the challenges of facing strong Premier League opponents.
