The Guardian has secured a double victory at the Football Supporters' Association (FSA) Awards, with both Football Weekly and Women's Football Weekly winning top podcast honours at the ceremony held in London. The awards, now in their 15th year, are decided by fan votes, with hundreds of thousands cast annually.
Women's Football Weekly, hosted by Faye Carruthers alongside football writer Suzanne Wrack, was named women's football media of the year, beating five other nominees described as outstanding outlets for the women's game. Later, Football Weekly regained the podcast of the year title, breaking a three-year winning streak that was interrupted by Football Ramble in 2024. Host Max Rushden joked on X: 'All is well with the world again.'
The ceremony, hosted by Victoria Derbyshire at Nobu in central London, featured 91 nominees across categories recognising both star players and grassroots contributions. Declan Rice and Alessia Russo were named men's and women's player of the year respectively. Lucy Ward won TV/radio pundit of the year, and Peter Drury was named commentator of the year.
Other winners included The Adam Clery Football Channel for social media of the year, Sam Merson for goal of the year, and Non-League Day for the non-league award. Proud Baggies, a West Brom LGBTQ+ fan group, won the fans for diversity category, while Bristol City took supporter engagement honours. The climate action award went to Sustaina-Bees and Brentford.
Tom Greatrex, FSA chair, said: 'On and off the pitch we are proud to celebrate the best that football has to offer. It's no surprise that Declan and Alessia won the popular vote for the player awards – they are both unbelievable talents who have been brilliant for club and country.' He added that the awards highlight work across the football pyramid that might otherwise go unnoticed.
