Thomas Frank has revealed he held lunch talks with Tottenham Hotspur hierarchy on Monday, describing the meeting as a positive sign despite mounting pressure on his job. The Spurs boss met chief executive Vinai Venkatesham, sporting director Johan Lange and co-owner representative Nick Beucher at the training ground, hours before Tuesday's Champions League clash with Borussia Dortmund.
Frank admitted no assurances were given over his future but insisted the directors' presence was unusual for a manager facing the sack. 'Normally people are running away if there's bad news or bad weather coming,' he said. 'They're normally not coming in and being friendly for lunch.'
The 50-year-old has won just one of his last eight games, leaving Tottenham 10th in the Premier League. Sunday's defeat to West Ham saw fans turn on both the manager and the board, with chants of 'we want our Tottenham back' audible at full-time.
Frank acknowledged the 'stormy weather' surrounding his tenure but urged supporters to back the team against Dortmund. 'The fans are crucial,' he said. 'I don't see any club performing well without the fans supporting, helping and doing everything they can.'
When asked about his own resilience, Frank referenced a three-part philosophy: good values, understanding reality, and maintaining perspective. 'I keep doing what I do, what I believe in,' he added.
