Foden eyes England return after Man City resurgence

Phil Foden believes he is rediscovering his best form for Manchester City and still hopes to earn a place in the England squad. The 26-year-old missed out on the World Cup this summer, but he is now showing signs of finding his rhythm again under Enzo Maresca.

Foden scored a hat-trick in his last Champions League appearance for City and wants to maintain that scoring feeling in a team that needs to prove it is not too reliant on Erling Haaland in matches this week against RB Leipzig and Nottingham Forest. After two years of struggling for consistency due to various issues, Foden has responded well to the red card in the Manchester derby that kept him out for a month.

Strong Return Since Suspension

City's academy product has recorded six goals and assists in three starts since his sending off and feels fresh as the Blues look to finish this round of fixtures strongly. Even though a call-up to Thomas Tuchel's squad for the November internationals looks unlikely, the lifelong City fan is optimistic about his current form.

"I think personally it's gone really well," Foden said. "Obviously I had the unfortunate red card against United, but the break has done me good. I think I came back really fresh minded and sharp. I've been involved in a lot of goals recently, so I've been really happy with my performance."

Focus on Club Form

Foden is focused on staying consistent and producing performances to push for an international return. "Just keep playing regularly, being happy, positive and being in the right position to score as well. Hopefully I can get back to that level. I think I'm starting to get back there now in my recent performances. I just hope I keep growing and keep getting better," he added.

"You just have to keep trying your best on the football field, keep putting in performances. That's all we're trying to do really, is focus on your own game. Hopefully one day the [England] call-up might come back."
