Best Firework Viewpoints in Greater Manchester for Bonfire Night
Best Firework Viewpoints in Greater Manchester

Firework displays and Bonfire Night events will be held across Greater Manchester, and for those not attending an event, several vantage points offer excellent views of the skies. This year Bonfire Night falls on a Thursday, with many events taking place over the weekend of November 7 and 8. For the first time in six years, free large firework displays will return to three of Manchester's biggest parks on Saturday, November 7.

Council bosses confirmed in September that events will return to Wythenshawe Park, Heaton Park, and Platt Fields Park in Fallowfield. While there will be no bonfires at these celebrations, there will be family-friendly fireworks. In a first for the event, organisers will stage two different displays at the parks, one at 5pm and another at 8pm.

Popular Hilltop Viewpoints

Werneth Low, located on the border of Stockport and Tameside, is perhaps the most well-known viewpoint in Greater Manchester. On a clear night it offers views across the city and as far as Liverpool, but it can get busy, so arriving early is advised.

Hartshead Pike in Tameside is another popular hilltop location, topped by a Grade II-listed tower originally built in the 18th century as a warning beacon. Scout Road in Bolton, on the edge of Smithills Country Park, is known among stargazers and offers views across to Manchester, with visitors saying they can see the red lights of the city's skyscrapers.

City Centre and Alternative Spots

For those preferring cocktails over muddy fields, Cloud 23 in Manchester, located on the 23rd floor of the Manchester Deansgate Hotel by IHG, offers views of the city at night and is offering a limited-time 'After Dark Bonfire Cocktail menu' until midnight on November 5. 20 Stories in Spinningfields also offers views of the city with a large open-air terrace, and despite the name, the bar is actually higher than Cloud 23.

Wild Bank Hill in Stalybridge, with a height of 399 metres, is recommended for experienced hikers and best attempted before night falls. Greenbooth Reservoir in Rochdale offers views of the city, with parking available at Greenbooth Reservoir Car Park on Forsyth Lane (OL12 7TL). Tandle Hill Country Park in Oldham looks out across Manchester, Oldham, and Rochdale.

Quays and Pub Options

Salford Quays offers views towards the city's skyline due to its relatively flat terrain, with restaurants and bars nearby in MediaCity. The Roebuck Inn in Strinesdale is known for its views across Saddleworth and Greater Manchester, combining a cosy pub meal with fireworks, and features a roaring fire.
