Everton fans warned to allow extra time for Coventry clash

Everton supporters are being urged to allow extra time for their journey to Hill Dickinson Stadium for Friday night's Premier League fixture against Coventry City, due to ongoing engineering works on the Merseyrail network.

The Blues face former manager Frank Lampard's side in an 8pm kick off, with David Moyes' men seeking a third win on the bounce and a second consecutive home victory. However, fans are being encouraged to arrive early for the clash at Bramley-Moore Dock.

Engineering works cause disruption

Supporters travelling from the south of the city are reminded of the ongoing planned engineering works on the Merseyrail network, resulting in disruption to services. The month-long works, due to be completed this weekend, have involved replacement bus services operating between Hunts Cross and Moorfields, with no rail replacement bus stop at Liverpool Central.

The works form part of a £3.5million project to strengthen and waterproof four tunnels carrying Northern Line services into Liverpool from the south. Supporters affected by the works are encouraged to check their route before travelling and allow additional time for their journey.

Purpose of the project

According to Merseyrail, the work is designed to prevent water entering the tunnels and affecting the 750V electrified third rail, helping to reduce the risk of power failures, emergency speed restrictions, and unplanned closures across the network. As part of the project, new track feeder switches will also be installed.

These will allow engineers to remotely isolate smaller sections of the railway, enabling faster repairs and reducing disruption for passengers. Services are expected to return to normal from Saturday November 7.

Travel advice for fans

Network Rail has confirmed the work has run smoothly and is anticipated to complete on time. Services are continuing to operate as normal through Sandhills station for passengers travelling to and from Southport, Ormskirk and Headbolt Lane.

Sandhills is the nearest station to Hill Dickinson Stadium while other stops on the network nearby include Bank Hall and Moorfields. A 15-minute service will be in operation before and after the match on all lines.
