England Extend Winning Streak with 38-Run Victory Over Scotland
England secured their third consecutive win in the Women's T20 World Cup 2026, beating Scotland by 38 runs at Headingley on Saturday. Sophia Dunkley top-scored with 57 from 37 balls, while Freya Kemp smashed 39 from 16 and Dani Gibson added 30 from 11 to propel England to 200 for five. Scotland, in reply, managed 153 for six, with Sarah Bryce making 34 and Darcey Carter 29.
Dunkley Shines After Early Wicket
England's innings got off to a rocky start when Amy Jones was dismissed for a golden duck off the first ball of the match, caught by Megan McColl off Kirstie Gordon. However, Dunkley counterattacked brilliantly, reaching her half-century off 33 balls. She was dropped three times, including twice in consecutive balls, which proved costly for Scotland. Alice Capsey supported with 40 from 25 balls, and captain Heather Knight contributed 25.
Late Flourish from Kemp and Gibson
After Dunkley's dismissal in the 10th over, England were 92 for three. Capsey fell in the 14th over, but Kemp and Gibson launched a brutal assault in the final overs. They added 61 runs from just 21 balls, with Kemp hitting two sixes and Gibson one, as England posted 200 for five. Priyanaz Chatterji and Hannah Rainey each took two wickets for Scotland.
Scotland's Chase Falters
Scotland began their chase positively, with Katherine Fraser scoring 23 from 13 balls before being bowled by Charlie Dean. Sarah Bryce and Darcey Carter kept the required rate in check for a time, but wickets fell regularly. Sophie Ecclestone bowled a tight spell, taking two wickets, including the key scalp of Kathryn Bryce for six. Linsey Smith and Freya Kemp also chipped in with a wicket each. Despite a late cameo from Pippa Sproul (22 not out) and Kirstie Gordon (21), Scotland fell short at 153 for six.
Player of the Match and Group Standings
Sophia Dunkley was named player of the match for her crucial innings. England now top their group with three wins from three, while Scotland sit fourth with two points. England will face West Indies at Lord's on Wednesday, while Scotland take on New Zealand in Bristol on Tuesday.
