Parc Asterix, France's second-largest theme park, is a hidden gem that outshines UK parks like Alton Towers and Thorpe Park, according to a recent family visit.
The park, located in the Oise-Pays de France Regional Nature Park, is just a 15-minute transfer from Charles de Gaulle airport and offers over 50 attractions, 36 food outlets, and three hotels.
Why Parc Asterix Beats UK Theme Parks
Unlike Disneyland Paris, Parc Asterix is easier to reach, cheaper, quieter, and has shorter queues. The park celebrated its French heritage through the beloved Asterix comic series, but familiarity with the characters isn't required to enjoy it.
The park features six themed zones: the Gaul village, the Roman Empire, Ancient Greece, Egypt, the Vikings, and a Through Time zone. For 2026, the Egypt zone has been revamped, and a new Londinium zone is under construction.
Family-Friendly Rides and Attractions
Children of all ages can enjoy a variety of rides, from the Descent of the Nile water slide to the Pegase Express rollercoaster. The Flight of Ibis, where chairs soar ten meters high, and the Romus and Rapidus white water ride were particular favorites.
For thrill-seekers, there are more rollercoasters than at UK parks, including Toutatis, one of the fastest rides in Europe, and Ozlris, where riders dangle in mid-air.
Shows and Dining
The park offers spectacular shows like the Divers of Olympus, a high-diving performance, along with musicals, pirate shows, and a stunt show. A new drones, lasers, and fireworks show has been launched for summer nights.
Dining options range from standard burgers to all-you-can-eat buffets at the new Epidemias. The on-site hotel Les Quais De Lutece offers buffet dining with local French cuisine.
One minor drawback is the language barrier, as menus and shows are primarily in French, but the staff are helpful and shows are visually engaging.

Staying at an on-site hotel gives priority access to rides 30 minutes before the general public. A two-night, three-day stay for a family of four starts from £700, with Eurostar fares from London to Paris from £39 each way.
