Doritos Offers $250K for Chip Landmarks

Doritos is calling on fans to showcase their patriotism with a cheesy new competition celebrating the 250th anniversary of America's founding. The snack brand's 'Build the Bold' contest challenges Americans to recreate some of the nation's most iconic landmarks using as many Doritos as they can, with a jaw-dropping $250,000 prize awaiting the most creative crunch-loving contestant.

Contest Details

Participants can choose from 14 iconic American landmarks, ranging from the towering natural wonders of Niagara Falls and the Grand Canyon to architectural marvels like the Lincoln Memorial and the US Capitol Building. Other choices span America's breathtaking national parks—from Yosemite and the Everglades to Arches and the Great Smoky Mountains—or legendary landmarks like Independence Hall, Fort Sumter, the Statue of Liberty, the Washington Monument, the Jefferson Memorial, the Liberty Bell, the Brooklyn Bridge, and the Hoover Dam.

The campaign comes as brands across the country roll out promotions tied to America's semiquincentennial celebration, marking the nation's 250th birthday.

How to Enter

To enter, contestants must submit a video to the contest website explaining how they constructed their over-the-top creations, why they selected their chosen landmark, and what makes their design stand out from the competition. Entrants are also encouraged to upload supporting photos and a 360-degree video to fully showcase their chip-crafted masterpieces. A mail-in option is also available. Participants are limited to one entry per person, per day, regardless of submission method, and the contest closes July 31.

Submissions must primarily feature Doritos tortilla chips, with preference given to Nacho Cheese and Cool Ranch varieties, though other Doritos-branded products are permitted.

Judging Criteria

At the end of the contest, all eligible entries will be reviewed by a panel of judges selected by the sponsor to determine the grand prize winner. Entries will be judged on three criteria:

  • Boldness counts for 50 percent of the score, based on creativity, impact, and use of chips.
  • Accuracy and build quality counts for 25 percent, based on realism and craftsmanship.
  • Video execution counts for 25 percent of the score, judging how clearly the build is shown on camera.

Other Prizes

Only one top winner will get the ultimate $250,000 prize, but that's not the only person eligible to win other prizes. Alongside the main competition, Doritos is also hosting a separate summer sweepstakes featuring weekly giveaways. Daily entrants will have the chance to win a 'bold at home bundle' containing a Doritos-branded cooler, speaker, beach towel, and a $200 prepaid gift card, with an approximate retail value of $730. The daily prizes are valued at $36,500. In total, 50 prizes will be awarded throughout the contest, with five winners selected during each entry period.

The contest and sweepstakes are open to legal US residents ages 18 and older, or 19 and older in Alabama and Nebraska. No purchase is necessary to participate.
