Former Salford City boss Anthony Johnson has taken a thinly-veiled dig at the club's ownership, the Class of 92, following their defeat in the League Two play-off final at Wembley. Johnson, who was joint manager with Bernard Morley, led the Ammies through three promotions in eight years from non-league to the National League before being sacked.
Johnson's Record Compared
After his departure, Salford won promotion to League Two under Gary Alexander, but have since failed to climb higher despite significant investment. Johnson posted on social media: "We left Salford City 8 years ago after winning 3 promotions. Since then they’ve won 1 promotion, and that was the season after we’d left with the majority of the squad we put together. I do sometimes wonder…"
Play-off Final Heartbreak
Salford, co-owned by Gary Neville and David Beckham, were outplayed by Notts County, losing the final at Wembley. Manager Karl Robinson admitted: "We were beaten in every area of the pitch today. I have no qualms with the result. We had too many players that didn’t turn up for the occasion."
Future Optimism
Despite the defeat, Robinson remains confident: "It’s only going to go in one direction this football club, I have complete confidence in that." Captain Luke Garbutt added: "The Club is moving in the right direction, we’ve got to pick ourselves up."
