Bournemouth and Wales midfielder David Brooks has announced that he has been given the all-clear after treatment for stage-two Hodgkin lymphoma, which was diagnosed in October.
In a statement on Twitter, the 24-year-old said: “I would like to say a huge thank you to all of the incredible medical staff for their amazing work and support throughout the process.”
“Last week I met with my specialist having reviewed my final test results. I am delighted to say the treatment was successful and I can now say that I have been given the all-clear and am now cancer free.”
Brooks expressed his gratitude for messages of support and said he is determined to return to full fitness and continue his football career. He is looking forward to cheering on Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium during the season's key fixtures.
The midfielder had played nine times for Bournemouth this season before his diagnosis. He missed Wales’ World Cup playoff campaign; the final against Scotland or Ukraine takes place next month.
