Crystal Palace suffer shock 1-0 home defeat to AEK Larnaca in Conference League

Crystal Palace suffered a shock 1-0 defeat to Cypriot side AEK Larnaca in their second Conference League group-stage match at Selhurst Park, with Riad Bajic scoring the only goal six minutes into the second half.

The Eagles dominated possession and had the best chance of the first half when Jean-Philippe Mateta clipped the crossbar from close range after visiting goalkeeper Zlatan Alomerovic palmed Daniel Munoz's cross into his path. Jefferson Lerma also fired over, and Mateta sent two efforts wide in added time.

The visitors broke the deadlock in the 51st minute after Jaydee Canvot gave the ball away to Marcus Rohden, who set up Bajic to rifle past Dean Henderson from 18 yards. Oliver Glasner made a triple change in the 71st minute, introducing Adam Wharton, Daichi Kamada and Eddie Nketiah, but Palace could not find an equaliser.

Nketiah nodded off target and mistimed a volley, while Mateta failed to connect with Wharton's cross. Late deliveries evaded Kamada and Romain Esse as Larnaca held on for a famous victory in front of around 750 travelling supporters.
