The holders produced a clinical display, capitalising on defensive errors from the home side to inflict the Blues’ joint-heaviest aggregate defeat in European competition.
Mamadou Sarr, making his Champions League debut, gifted PSG the opener after six minutes when he failed to control a long ball, allowing Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to race through and score. The tie was effectively ended by the 14th minute when Bradley Barcola was left unmarked on the edge of the box, flicking the ball up before firing an outrageous volley into the top corner. Trevoh Chalobah and Moises Caicedo were among those at fault for the goal.
Senny Mayulu added a third in the second half, a fine strike from the 19-year-old midfielder, as Chelsea’s supporters began to leave the stadium. The defeat marked Chelsea’s heaviest aggregate loss since Bayern Munich knocked them out 7-1 over two legs in 2020. Liam Rosenior’s side, missing the injured Reece James and Malo Gusto, looked nervous and disjointed throughout, with individual errors compounding their downfall.
