Chelsea: Alex Scott transfer prediction emerges after Bournemouth U-turn

Former Chelsea midfielder Gus Poyet has backed Bournemouth's Alex Scott as a player who "would be good in any team", amid Chelsea's interest in the 23-year-old for the January transfer window.

Scott, who is currently out injured, has been linked at various points with Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham, Liverpool and both Manchester clubs this summer. Contract talks with Bournemouth are at a deadlock, with the England international having turned down offers of a new deal.

Poyet's Verdict on Scott

Reminded that all of the so-called 'big six' have been linked with Scott since the start of the summer — something which happens to very few players — Poyet said: "Yeah, true. He is a good player; top."

Poyet, speaking to Standard Sport in conjunction with Gambling.com, continued: "I think he would be good in any team. But it will depend on the players, on how many you have available in every position.

"From what I read, [Chelsea manager] Xabi Alonso does not want a big squad, so you don't want to add just to have another body. It will depend on the quantity."

Bournemouth's U-turn and Chelsea's Midfield

Bournemouth are willing to sell Scott in January for around £100million if they are looking likely at that point to stave off Premier League relegation. Chelsea remain interested in the Guernsey-born player.

In central midfield, Chelsea have Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia and summer signings Jordan Henderson and Valentin Barco to call upon. However, captain Reece James is out injured as he recovers from knee surgery and is not expected back until mid-January.
