A huge fire has destroyed the Irvine No1 Celtic Supporters Club in Ayrshire, forcing the closure of the adjacent Rivergate Shopping Centre. The blaze broke out at the former Forum shopping centre on West Road in Irvine around 11:30 pm on Monday night.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service dispatched six appliances and two high reach appliances to the scene. By 8 am Tuesday, the response was scaled back to three appliances as the fire lessened significantly. No casualties have been reported.
Dramatic photos show flames tearing through the supporters club roof. The Rivergate Shopping Centre remains closed, except for Asda and the outside Greggs unit. Emergency services are on-site, and the centre will reopen when safe.
A local expressed concerns about a possible gas explosion or deliberate act, but authorities have not confirmed any cause. The shopping centre advised the public to avoid the area and find alternative routes to the train station.
