Former Manchester United striker Dion Dublin has urged the Red Devils to spend big on Harry Kane and tempt him back to the Premier League.
Kane is 33 years old but appears to still be at the peak of his powers for both Bayern Munich and England. Since moving from Tottenham to Bayern in 2023 he has scored 152 goals in 154 games for the German giants, with six in seven appearances at the start of this season.
2026 has been a prolific year for him on the international scene as well, scoring 13 goals in 13 England games as he takes his tally to 91 in 125 caps.
Contract situation and Dublin's plea
The Three Lions captain is in the final year of his contract with Bayern Munich but reports suggest that he is close to agreeing a new deal in Bavaria.
Dublin says, regardless of whether he signs a new contract or not, Manchester United should be looking to tempt him back to England, even if it still costs them a lot of money.
‘Even at 33, 34, 35, I’d still nick Harry for a year or two because he just finds his way into good positions. You put the ball there and he doesn’t even have to run about as much,’ Dublin told football betting site BetVictor.
‘You can see he’s dropping into the number 10 role a bit more, sometimes even into the four, and spraying balls about so he’s not easy to mark. Two centre-halves don’t know where he is, and then he crops up.
‘He’s a very clever footballer. I would take Harry Kane right now at Man Utd. There’s a bit of a statement in this, Harry Kane could start in any Premier League side.
‘Any Premier League side, it doesn’t matter. Every club in the Premier League would take him right now, 100 per cent.
‘United have toyed with it, they’ve spoken about it too much. If you want him, go get him. Even if he signs a new deal there, give them the 70 or 80 million, whatever they want, because you’ve got to get goals.
‘Why are you buying Harry Kane? To score your goals. Who can you guarantee for goals? Haaland, Kane, Lewandowski, Mbappe, and then you start to struggle a bit for guaranteed scorers. Harry Kane guarantees you goals.’
Ballon d'Or race
Given his relentlessly good form for club and country, there has been talk of Kane winning the Ballon d’Or this year and he appears to be in a two-horse race with Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal.
Dublin reckons the Bayern superstar deserves the nod as he bids to become the first Englishman to win the award since Michael Owen in 2001.
‘I don’t want Harry Kane to fall just short of the Ballon d’Or, because he’s just been so prolific, and I think he deserves it,’ said the former Aston Villa, Coventry and England striker.
‘Look at his numbers, his numbers are bizarre! Lamine Yamal has got another 20 years at the top, he will win the Ballon d’Or at some stage. But right now, if you are looking at performances and you’re looking at the way that an individual affects a football match, whether it’s an assist or a goal, I can’t look past Harry.
‘For me, Harry has to win it. As good as Lamine Yamal is, and I love watching him, Harry deserves to get it for me.’
