Ten-man Celtic lost a two-goal half-time lead but held on for a precious Europa League point in Bologna. Reo Hatate opened the scoring in the sixth minute after a gift from Bologna goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski, but then collected two yellow cards in three minutes to be sent off before the break. Auston Trusty doubled Celtic’s lead from a corner just before half-time.
Bologna responded with sustained pressure after the interval, and goals from Thijs Dallinga and Jonathan Rowe brought the hosts level. The Italian side totalled 37 attempts at goal, but Celtic defended resolutely to secure a 2-2 draw.
The result leaves Celtic on eight points ahead of their final group game against Utrecht at Parkhead, where a win should see them qualify for the playoff round. The Celtic fans celebrated the point as a significant result.
