Casemiro's Manchester United career has come to an end, with interim boss Michael Carrick confirming the Brazilian midfielder has already left the club. The 34-year-old bid an emotional farewell to Old Trafford on Sunday during the 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest, receiving a standing ovation when substituted and making a heartfelt speech on the pitch.
Carrick revealed that the decision was made last week that the match would be Casemiro's final appearance for United, allowing him time off before the World Cup. 'It just felt the right time, I think, for Cassie, and it was decided, he's part of that as well,' Carrick said. 'We always kind of decided that last week would be his last game.'
The interim manager praised Casemiro's contributions, stating he has been 'fantastic' for the club. Carrick now plans to give opportunities to young players in the final match against Brighton, while acknowledging the importance of the game for the hosts, who are chasing European qualification.
United will finish third regardless of Sunday's result, but Carrick emphasised the team's responsibility to finish strongly. 'There's a lot to play for Brighton, for Bournemouth, for all the other clubs surrounding that, so we're well aware of that,' he added.
