Casemiro has firmly stated that he will not reverse his decision to depart Manchester United at the end of the current season, despite heartfelt pleas from supporters and a recent agreement to waive a contractual clause that could have kept him at Old Trafford.
Fan Appeals Fall on Deaf Ears
The 34-year-old former Real Madrid midfielder announced his intention to leave back in January, with his contract set to expire this summer. He has already attracted interest from multiple clubs, including teams in Major League Soccer (MLS) and Al-Ittihad of the Saudi Pro League.
Manchester United fans have been vocal in their desire for Casemiro to reconsider, chanting "one more year, one more year, Casemiro" after he scored in a recent Premier League victory over Aston Villa. This outpouring of support followed a notable upturn in his form over the past few months.
No U-Turn Planned
However, in an interview with The Athletic following Brazil's 2-1 loss to France on Thursday, Casemiro confirmed that his decision is final. "I am still enjoying it a lot in Manchester," he said. "I believe the announcement is now done. It is huge, the affection that the fans have shown towards me. But I do really believe the decision is made and done. I am enjoying myself right now. I believe it will be some difficult emotional moments, these final games at Manchester United."
Contract Clause Waived
Casemiro's contract, which places him among the team's highest earners, included a clause that would have triggered an additional year if he started 35 games this season. Earlier this week, it emerged that both Casemiro and Manchester United mutually agreed to waive this clause, meaning he will have no contractual obligation to remain beyond the summer.
Renaissance Under Carrick
Since Michael Carrick took over as interim head coach following Ruben Amorim's departure in January, Casemiro has experienced a renaissance, becoming one of the team's most in-form players. He praised Carrick for his impact, noting, "Above all, Michael is a specialist in my position on the field, he was a truly great player. That makes everything much easier and he is always talking to us. I feel like we are in a good dynamic right now in Manchester and my objective now is to get the club back into the Champions League."
As Casemiro focuses on his final games with Manchester United and aims to secure a Champions League spot, his departure marks the end of a significant chapter for both the player and the club, despite the strong bond with fans.
