Carrick Urges Manchester United to Maintain Composure Amidst Form Fluctuations
Carrick Urges Man Utd to Avoid Mood Swings After West Ham Draw

Interim Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has emphasised the importance of his squad maintaining a steady mindset, despite the team's recent mixed results under his temporary leadership.

Strong Start Under Carrick

Since taking over from Ruben Amorim last month, Carrick has overseen an impressive beginning to his tenure, guiding the Red Devils to four consecutive victories. This positive run provided a significant boost to the club's Premier League campaign, with United climbing to fourth place in the standings.

West Ham Draw as a Reality Check

The momentum was slightly checked on February 10, when United managed only a draw away at West Ham United. While some supporters viewed this as a disappointment, particularly notable fan Frank Ilett, whose much-publicised wait for a haircut continued due to the lack of a fifth straight win, Carrick offered a more measured perspective.

"We've got to be a bit balanced in terms of not getting carried away before that West Ham game in terms of winning games, and certainly not getting carried away if we don't come away with the three points," Carrick stated ahead of Monday's upcoming fixture against Everton.

He elaborated on the challenges inherent in the Premier League, noting, "There's an understanding that games are tough to win in this league, and it's proven, not just for us. A lot of the performance in terms of the control and how we went about the game was there, there were a lot of good things in the game."

Positive Takeaways from the Draw

Carrick highlighted several encouraging aspects from the match at the London Stadium, including United's late goal which secured the point. "It probably got open towards the end when we were chasing it a little bit more, but we looked dangerous. And scoring a late goal is a big positive, so I think it's an important point for us," he explained.

He reiterated that while victory was the desired outcome, the draw should not be perceived as a significant setback. "Yeah, of course, we wanted to win the game, but certainly we're not thinking that it was all bad or it's a big negative."

Upcoming Challenge Against Everton

United's next test comes against Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, with the Toffees managed by David Moyes, one of Carrick's former bosses at Old Trafford. Carrick acknowledged the difficulty of the encounter, praising Moyes' managerial prowess.

"David's teams are hard to play against, he's such a good manager, and with the experience he's got, he knows what it takes to have success in this league," Carrick remarked.

He also pointed to the historical toughness of away trips to Everton, regardless of the stadium change. "Going away to Everton, I know it's a new stadium but historically it's always been tough. The supporters and the atmosphere they create, it's always been one of the toughest ones when I've played away from home so we're aware of that and try to be our best where we can."

Team Spirit and Potential Returns

Carrick expressed confidence in his squad's foundation and collective spirit as they approach the match. "We've got things to improve on, but we've got a good base and a good foundation moving forward, good spirit. So we'll have to draw on pretty much all of that."

In a positive update for United fans, midfielder Mason Mount is nearing a return to action. Carrick revealed that Mount, who has been absent since the Manchester derby in mid-January, is getting closer to being available for selection, potentially bolstering the team's options in midfield.
