Carrick Urges Manchester United to Maintain Composure After West Ham Draw
Carrick: Man United Must Avoid Mood Swings After Strong Start

Carrick Calls for Steady Approach as Manchester United Face Everton Test

Interim Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has emphasised the importance of maintaining emotional equilibrium within his squad, following their recent draw against West Ham United. The Red Devils had enjoyed a perfect start under Carrick's temporary stewardship, securing four consecutive victories after he replaced Ruben Amorim last month.

Balancing Act Required After London Stadium Stalemate

The 1-1 draw at the London Stadium on February 10th ended United's winning streak, a result that disappointed many supporters. Notably, it extended the much-publicised wait of fan Frank Ilett for a celebratory haircut, a pledge he had made contingent on United achieving five straight wins.

However, Carrick was keen to project a sense of perspective. "We've got to be a bit balanced in terms of not getting carried away before that West Ham game in terms of winning games, and certainly not getting carried away if we don't come away with the three points," he stated in his pre-match press conference ahead of Monday's fixture against Everton.

He elaborated on the challenges inherent in the Premier League, noting that victories are never guaranteed for any team. Carrick pointed to several positive aspects from the West Ham match, including the team's control and overall performance. "A lot of the performance in terms of the control and how we went about the game was there, there were a lot of good things," he affirmed.

While acknowledging the game became more open as United chased a winner late on, Carrick highlighted the attacking threat they posed and the significance of scoring a late equaliser. "Scoring a late goal is a big positive, so I think it's an important point for us. Yeah, of course, we wanted to win the game, but certainly we're not thinking that it was all bad or it's a big negative," he concluded.

Everton Challenge Awaits at Hill Dickinson Stadium

The result leaves Manchester United in fourth place in the Premier League table as they prepare to travel to Merseyside. Their next challenge comes at the Hill Dickinson Stadium against an Everton side managed by David Moyes, one of Carrick's former bosses during his playing days at Old Trafford.

Carrick expressed respect for his upcoming opponent, acknowledging Moyes's managerial pedigree. "David's teams are hard to play against, he's such a good manager, and with the experience he's got, he knows what it takes to have success in this league," Carrick remarked.

He anticipates a difficult atmosphere, recalling his experiences as a player. "Going away to Everton, I know it's a new stadium but historically it's always been tough. The supporters and the atmosphere they create, it's always been one of the toughest ones when I've played away from home," he said, adding that United must be at their best to succeed.

Looking ahead, Carrick believes his squad has a solid foundation. "We've got things to improve on, but we've got a good base and a good foundation moving forward, good spirit. So we'll have to draw on pretty much all of that," he asserted.

Potential Boost with Mount's Return

In a positive update for United fans, Carrick revealed that midfielder Mason Mount is nearing a return to action. The England international has not featured since the Manchester derby in mid-January due to injury, but his recovery is progressing well, potentially offering a timely boost to the squad's options.
