Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick has included youngster Dan Armer in the travelling squad for tonight's Champions League clash against Atletico Madrid in the Spanish capital.
United marked their return to Europe's top table with a comfortable win over competition debutants Sabah last month, but have not won a game since. The controversial home defeat to Manchester City and subsequent draws with Fulham and Tottenham have culminated in United's worst start to a league season for 40 years, and they have also been dumped out of the Carabao Cup.
Carrick remains confident despite winless run
Despite a four-game winless run across all competitions, Carrick's job as United head coach is reportedly safe, and he remains confident the team can turn things around.
"We're hugely positive. The boys have got the confidence in each other, and I've got the utmost belief in them," Carrick said in the news conference.
"And it's very fine lines, you know. We didn't start the game very well the other day, and we all acknowledge that. The last three goals we've kind of conceded really in the league have all been avoidable and that changes things an awful lot."
Six senior players ruled out
United's hopes of beating Atletico have been dented with Luke Shaw and Kobbie Mainoo ruled out, joining Patrick Dorgu, Noussair Mazraoui, Manuel Ugarte and Benjamin Sesko as the confirmed absentees.
In a change from recent seasons, United will not be announcing their squad for Champions League away games this season. As per the Manchester Evening News, the decision has been made as the club believe it could be disadvantageous.
Who has travelled to Madrid
With that said, the club have released images of the players departing Manchester Airport on Monday to provide an insight as to who has travelled.
Matheus Cunha is in line to face his former side, while Carlos Baleba, Lisandro Martinez, Diogo Dalot, Senne Lammens, Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes, Bryan Mbeumo and Matthijs de Ligt have all made the trip to Madrid.
Youngster Dan Armer has also been pictured, and Leny Yoro accompanied Carrick in the news conference. Ayden Heaven, Harry Maguire, Amad Diallo, Shea Lacey, Joshua Zirkzee, Mason Mount, Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans all trained on Monday, and it has been reported that Harry Amass has travelled to Spain.
