Bethany Platt's pregnancy was confirmed in Coronation Street's latest episode, and viewers believe they have worked out the identity of the baby's father.
Bethany first appeared in the ITV soap as the newborn daughter of Sarah (Tina O'Brien). Currently portrayed by Lucy Fallon, Bethany has featured in numerous major storylines throughout her time on the cobbles, from grooming to botched cosmetic procedures.
A dramatic few months
In recent months, Bethany has been managing things at home following Sarah's imprisonment for the murder of Theo Silverton (James Cartwright). She has been caring for Sarah's son Harry while sharing a house with Sarah's former partner Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) after Sarah ended their relationship from behind bars.
An unexpected development occurred when Bethany and Kit, who had received a breast cancer diagnosis, became intimate. The remorseful duo insisted nobody could discover what happened and vowed to keep it between themselves, reports the Daily Star.
Jodie's blackmail and departure
Regrettably, troublemaker Jodie Ramsay (Olivia Frances Brown) discovered their liaison and secretly recorded a conversation between them. She subsequently blackmailed Bethany, causing her considerable distress. Nevertheless, Jodie has now left Weatherfield in the wake of last week's gun confrontation.
In the days since, the atmosphere between Kit and Bethany has been uncomfortable. Bethany has embarked on a romance with Ryan Connor (played by Ryan Prescott) and matters appear to be progressing well between the pair.
Shocking pregnancy revelation
However, in Tuesday's episode (October 13), the soap delivered a shocking pregnancy revelation for Bethany. Following a confrontation with Bethany over her disclosing his cancer diagnosis to Sarah earlier in the day, a furious Kit stormed out. Bethany then appeared from the bathroom and was shown taking a pregnancy test before awaiting the outcome.
The result confirmed that Bethany was expecting, leaving a distressed Bethany in floods of tears. Viewers are now adamant they have identified the baby's father.
Fans' predictions
On a Coronation Street Facebook fan page, one person said: "We all predicted Bethany was going to be pregnant, but who is the dad?". Another added: "Kit 100%." A third chimed in: "Yes, I can see that happening." Someone else penned: "Wouldn't be at all surprised if the father of Bethany's baby turns out to be Kit."
Coronation Street airs Monday to Friday at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
