Tottenham Hotspur's pursuit of Wolfsburg defender Micky van de Ven is in doubt after the Bundesliga side raised their asking price to around £40 million. The north London club had identified the Dutch international as their top defensive target, but Wolfsburg are now demanding the full fee and are prepared to keep the player if it is not met.
Van de Ven, who has previously expressed admiration for Liverpool, recently stated that he would consider joining a club with a clear plan for him. In an interview with Voetbal International, he said: 'Of course, there are a lot of people who draw lines. It's true that the director went there and I know that Liverpool followed me before, but at the moment I don't know anything. If a nice club comes along that has a clear plan with me, then I could consider taking a step.'
Tottenham have other options, including bringing Clement Lenglet back on a permanent basis and Wolves defender Max Kilman. However, with Van de Ven tied to Wolfsburg until 2027, Spurs may be forced to look elsewhere unless they meet the German club's valuation.
