Jamie Carragher has insisted that Viktor Gyokeres 'should not be starting for Arsenal' now that Gabriel Jesus is fit again, casting doubt on the club's £64million summer signing.
The Sweden international has scored seven goals in 20 appearances this season but has largely struggled in the Premier League, disappointing again in Tuesday's 4-1 win over Aston Villa after also struggling against Brighton at the weekend.
Jesus, who replaced Gyokeres after 77 minutes against Villa and scored a minute later, is now available again after 10 months out with a knee injury. With Kai Havertz also back in the squad, Mikel Arteta has options up front.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Carragher said: 'I think maybe the only negative of the night for Arsenal is that Gyokeres shouldn't be starting for Arsenal when they've got players like this (Jesus).' The Liverpool legend added that both Jesus and Havertz are better players than Gyokeres.
Carragher praised Jesus as a 'fantastic footballer' and predicted that within a few games, the Brazilian would be ahead of Gyokeres in the pecking order, noting that Arsenal need to improve on what they have in the Sweden international.
