Blackburn Rovers Match Abandoned Again Due to Waterlogged Pitch

Blackburn Rovers' Championship clash with Sheffield Wednesday was abandoned after an hour due to a waterlogged pitch at Ewood Park. It is the second time this season that a home match has been called off because of heavy rain, following a similar incident against Ipswich Town.

Yuki Ohashi had put Rovers 1-0 up with a well-taken finish after a neat move down the right. However, persistent rainfall led to puddles forming on the pitch, particularly in the centre circle and the Darwen End penalty area.

Referee Ruebyn Ricardo halted play for ten minutes to allow ground staff to try to make the surface playable, but ultimately deemed it unplayable and abandoned the match. Rovers had made one enforced change, with Yuri Ribeiro handed his first start since October 4 in place of the injured Ryan Hedges.

The first half saw Rovers dominate possession but struggle to break down a resilient Sheffield Wednesday defence. The only goal came from a flowing move involving Ryan Alebiosu and Morishita, whose low cross was guided home by Ohashi. Both teams were guilty of late challenges, leading to a flurry of cards before the break.

After the restart, Rovers goalkeeper Aynsley Pears made a crucial save to keep his side ahead, denying Cadamarteri with his foot. However, the worsening conditions eventually forced the abandonment, marking the second time this season Rovers have surrendered a one-goal lead due to the rain.
