Romelu Lukaku is pushing for a start as Belgium take on Iran in the second of their World Cup group games tonight. The Red Devils began their campaign with an unconvincing 1-1 draw against Egypt, where Lukaku was introduced just after the hour mark to salvage a point. Although the Napoli forward did not score, he forced an own goal from Mohamed Hany within seconds of his arrival on the pitch.
Lukaku's Fitness and Starting Role
Following an injury-hit season in Italy, Lukaku is not Rudi Garcia's preferred first-choice centre-forward at present. Charles De Ketelaere led the line against Egypt but missed team training earlier this week and was spotted bandaged up. However, he is expected to be available to face Iran. De Ketelaere was replaced by Lukaku in the draw against Egypt, and the latter's impact has sparked debate over who should start.
Predicted Lineup and Tactical Setup
Jeremy Doku has taken over on the left wing from Eden Hazard, while Kevin De Bruyne remains the creative hub for the Red Devils. Thibaut Courtois continues as goalkeeper, with Thomas Meunier at right-back. The defence sees changes, with centre-backs Nathan Ngoy and Brandon Mechele. Timothy Castagne could keep his place at left-back, although Maxime de Cuyper of Brighton is also an option. In midfield, Amadou Onana and Youri Tielemans provide a Premier League flavour, while Leandro Trossard operated off the right against Egypt and is expected to do so again.
Predicted Belgium XI (4-2-3-1): Courtois; Meunier, Ngoy, Mechele, De Cuyper; Onana, Tielemans; Trossard, De Bruyne, Doku; De Ketelaere.
