Tottenham Hotspur have rejected Bayern Munich's latest bid for Harry Kane, worth £86m, as the German champions face a decision on whether to continue their pursuit of the England captain.
The offer, Bayern's third for the striker, did not meet chairman Daniel Levy's valuation. Bayern had indicated this would be their final proposal but will hold internal talks about a possible improved bid. Head coach Thomas Tuchel is keen to fill the void left by Robert Lewandowski's departure to Barcelona last summer.
Kane, whose contract expires next summer, wants clarity on his future before Spurs open their Premier League season against Brentford on Sunday. Tottenham have offered their record goalscorer a lucrative new deal but the 30-year-old has shown no indication of signing, raising the prospect of losing him on a free transfer.
Bayern's interest provides Levy with an opportunity to cash in and avoid Kane joining another Premier League club for nothing. Manchester United were previously interested but have since signed Rasmus Højlund from Atalanta.
Kane faces a season without European football at Spurs but could have a fresh start under new head coach Ange Postecoglou. The club are close to signing Micky van de Ven from Wolfsburg and Alejo Véliz from Rosario Central, having already brought in James Maddison, Manor Solomon, Ashley Phillips and Guglielmo Vicario.
