Tom Aspinall has accused Ciryl Gane of throwing illegal shots during his interim UFC heavyweight title victory over Alex Pereira. Gane knocked out Pereira in the second round at the White House on Saturday night, setting up a potential rematch with Aspinall.
The pair previously fought last October, but the bout was ruled a no contest after Gane accidentally poked Aspinall in both eyes during the opening round. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Aspinall said: "I have to watch that again. It looked like there was a lot of illegal elbows going on, illegal punches, but generally, he looked good."
Despite his criticisms, Aspinall expressed willingness to face Gane again, even in Paris. "Paris in September? I'll do that. I'll go to Paris. Let me know. I'll be there," he said. However, the fight is more likely to take place in America, according to UFC officials.
Gane, meanwhile, said he has "unfinished business" with Aspinall but declined to send a direct message. He compared Aspinall to Pereira, stating: "Alex Pereira's a guy who is very strong and a guy that can take your lights out at any moment and Tom Aspinall's a guy that's more well-versed and a more complete fighter overall."
UFC CEO Dana White was non-committal about a rematch, saying: "I'm not thinking even thinking about that right now. Ciryl Gane looked great tonight. We'll get back, I'm going to let my people have some time off this week and then we'll figure out what's next."
