Theo Walcott, a former Arsenal and Southampton player, has publicly criticised Arteta, attributing the team's poor performance to the manager's "nervous energy." "You are crossing the line a little with [questions and reports about] Alvarez. He's an Atletico Madrid player and has a long contract with the club," Cerezo asserted before Atletico's La Liga match against Barcelona, which they lost with a late goal from Robert Lewandowski.
Alvarez, the Argentine international, has been in impressive form this season, scoring 17 goals and providing nine assists across all competitions. Reports indicate Atletico have set a valuation of approximately £129 million for the 26-year-old forward, deterring potential suitors amid the ongoing transfer rumours.
