Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Gabriel Martinelli will miss Saturday’s Premier League clash at Burnley, while William Saliba remains a doubt. The pair missed Wednesday’s Carabao Cup victory over Brighton after picking up injuries in last weekend’s win against Crystal Palace.
Martinelli sustained a thigh injury in the 1-0 victory at Selhurst Park, while Saliba suffered an ankle knock that forced him off at half-time. Arteta said on Friday: “Martinelli is still out. Saliba, we have to wait and see. We have another training session this afternoon.”
The Spaniard added that the game would “come too early” for Martinelli, and that the rest of the injured squad members are “not available yet”. Arsenal are also without captain Martin Ødegaard, Kai Havertz, Noni Madueke and long-term absentee Gabriel Jesus.
Arteta expressed hope that some of those players could return after the international break, with fixtures against Tottenham, Chelsea and Bayern Munich on the horizon. “I would say weeks, and some of them pretty soon, hopefully,” he said. “After the international break, I think we will have some back.”
Meanwhile, Declan Rice, Riccardo Calafiori and Bukayo Saka were all involved against Brighton after being substituted or struggling in the Palace match, easing some selection concerns for the trip to Turf Moor.
