Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson has publicly addressed the intense speculation surrounding his future, firmly stating his commitment to the club despite being linked with a blockbuster summer transfer. The England international, who is reportedly valued at a staggering £100 million by Forest, has emerged as a prime target for several Premier League powerhouses, including Manchester City, Manchester United, and Arsenal.
Focus on Forest and International Duties
Anderson, now a regular fixture in the England squad, emphasised his immediate priorities during a press conference ahead of Forest's crucial Europa League play-off second leg against Fenerbahce. "I’m just focusing on my football at the moment and performing and trying to give everything for Nottingham Forest, really," the 23-year-old declared. "So that’s all that’s on my mind."
Reflecting on his two-year tenure at the City Ground since his 2024 move from Newcastle United, Anderson acknowledged significant personal and professional growth. "It’s been a big two years. I think I’ve done pretty well, to be honest, in the time I’ve been here, on and off the pitch. I think I’ve matured as a person as well," he said, crediting the club for providing a platform to excel.
A Crucial Career Move
Anderson's departure from his boyhood club Newcastle was necessitated by profit and sustainability regulations, a decision he now views as pivotal for his development. "Obviously in players’ careers, you never know where you’re going to be," he remarked. "Moving from your hometown is a big step in your career. And it was definitely something that I needed to do and it has turned out really well. So I was happy I made that step."
His impressive performances have not only solidified his place at Forest but also captured the attention of the England manager. Anderson is widely seen as a potential midfield partner for Arsenal's Declan Rice in the national team setup, especially with the World Cup campaign looming this summer.
Competition for England Spot
While hopeful of securing a regular role with England, Anderson remains grounded about the fierce competition. "I hope so. There’s just so many good players in the England team. Obviously, I’ve played this year, but I’m also needing to perform in the Premier League, in the Europa League, to keep the spot," he admitted, highlighting the continuous effort required at both club and international levels.
Manager Dismisses Transfer Talk
Forest manager Vitor Pereira has also weighed in on the transfer rumours, which extend to Anderson's teammate Morgan Gibbs-White, linked with Manchester United. Pereira dismissed the speculation outright, focusing instead on his squad's dedication. "I’m not hearing this. Every day is work. I feel they are very committed to our target, which is the most important thing," he asserted.
Praising both Anderson and Gibbs-White, Pereira added, "He is a top player, a captain; a top player with spirit. Elliot is the same – a top player with spirit. That’s why I accepted the job, because I have very good players. We need to prove – every day with our work and on the pitch – we don’t just have talent in the team but we can also create a strong team together."
Europa League Ambitions
Forest are on the verge of advancing to the Europa League last 16, holding a commanding 3-0 aggregate lead as they prepare to host Fenerbahce in the second leg. This European success underscores the team's collective strength and Anderson's integral role within it, further complicating any potential departure discussions.
As the summer transfer window approaches, Anderson's future remains a hot topic, but for now, his focus remains unwavering on contributing to Nottingham Forest's ongoing campaign and preparing for England's World Cup endeavours.
