Grimsby Goalkeeper Pym 'Half Fuming' After Man United Upset

Grimsby Town goalkeeper Christy Pym has admitted to being 'half-fuming' after his side knocked Manchester United out of the Carabao Cup in a dramatic penalty shootout at Blundell Park. The League Two outfit secured a historic 12-11 victory after the match ended 4-4 in normal time.

Pym, a self-confessed Manchester United fan, made a crucial save during the 18-minute shootout to keep Grimsby's hopes alive. Speaking to Sky Sports, he joked: 'I'm a Man United fan so I'm half-fuming a little bit. Nights like this are what you play football for, so it was beautiful.'

The match saw Grimsby take a two-goal lead in the first half through Charles Vernam and Tyrell Warren, both beating an underperforming Andre Onana. Bryan Mbeumo and Harry Maguire then scored for United to force extra time and eventually penalties.

Mbeumo struck the crossbar with his second spot-kick in the shootout, handing Grimsby the win. Pym reflected on his preparation: 'We sat down yesterday, me and the goalie coach, Steve, and we had a good hour going through penalties just in case. I got one save and kept us in it and the boys did the rest.'

Vernam admitted nerves almost got the better of him during the shootout. 'It was a nervy wait. When it just kept going on and on, you just never know. It's an amazing feeling, one that will live with us forever,' he said.
