Manchester United have been offered the chance to sign three free-agent strikers who meet manager Ruben Amorim’s demand for Premier League experience, as the club’s search for a new number nine faces significant obstacles. The Red Devils have seen several primary targets slip away, with Liam Delap choosing Chelsea, Viktor Gyokeres bound for Arsenal, and Hugo Ekitike closing in on a move to Liverpool.
According to reports, United have also been quoted prohibitive fees for Nicolas Jackson and Ollie Watkins, and similar issues would likely arise if they pursued Jean-Philippe Mateta or Evanilson. With options narrowing, Amorim has made clear he wants a striker with top-flight experience, leading to the offer of three unattached forwards: Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Callum Wilson, and Jamie Vardy.
Calvert-Lewin left Everton after his contract expired on June 30, Wilson was released by Newcastle, and Vardy departed Leicester City. All three have scored at least 16 goals in a single Premier League season—Vardy achieving the feat four times—but their combined league tally last season was just 12 goals, raising doubts about their current form.
United’s hierarchy have so far resisted the offers, preferring to explore other avenues before turning to options that might draw fan criticism. The club has already signed Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo for over £130 million, but both are expected to fill the number 10 roles, leaving a central striker vacancy after a season in which Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee were the only senior options.
