Sam Allardyce Urges Man Utd to Appoint Carlo Ancelotti as 'Magic' Manager
Allardyce: Ancelotti the 'Magic' Man for Man Utd Job

Manchester United have been advised to target serial winner Carlo Ancelotti as their next permanent boss, following the dismissal of Ruben Amorim.

Allardyce Backs Ancelotti for United Role

Former England manager Sam Allardyce has publicly endorsed the Italian legend for the hot seat at Old Trafford. Speaking on the Footy Accumulators No Tippy Tappy Football podcast, Allardyce stated that Ancelotti possesses the unique man-management skills required to revive the club's fortunes.

"He can spread magic on Manchester United because of his man-management skills, not his coaching," Allardyce said. "He’d be the man to go in after the World Cup. I think he’d jump at the chance."

Ancelotti, who currently manages the Brazilian national team and will lead them at the 2026 World Cup this summer, boasts an incredible CV. He has won 30 major trophies, including a record five UEFA Champions League titles, across spells with AC Milan, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich.

Interim Setup and Summer Decision

United are searching for a new manager after sacking Ruben Amorim at the start of this week. Darren Fletcher has taken interim charge and will lead the team for their FA Cup third-round tie against Brighton on Sunday.

The club is then expected to appoint Ole Gunnar Solskjaer or Michael Carrick – or both – as caretaker managers for the remainder of the season. A permanent, high-profile appointment is planned for the summer by co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

However, Allardyce has urged the club to reconsider this plan, suggesting they stick with Fletcher until the end of the campaign. "Fletcher should be the interim for me," he argued. "He knows the ins and outs, he’s been there a long time, he’s Manchester United through and through."

The Challenge of Attracting Top Talent

Allardyce also highlighted the potential difficulty United now face in attracting elite managers. "If you tried to go for a top manager now, would they want to go to Manchester United?" he questioned. "That’s the sad thing. If it’s one of the top ones, would he turn it down?"

His comments underscore the scale of the rebuilding job required at Old Trafford, despite the club's historic prestige. The recommendation of Ancelotti, a proven winner known for his calm demeanour and elite pedigree, is seen as a potential shortcut back to the top.

Whether United's hierarchy will pursue a manager committed to Brazil until after the World Cup remains to be seen, but Allardyce's pitch has certainly added a high-profile name to the speculation surrounding one of football's biggest jobs.
