The defender, who welcomed her first child earlier this year, found herself in need of a birth partner when her husband was unable to attend due to work commitments. Stepping up without hesitation was fellow Lions player Kate Lutkins, demonstrating the deep bonds formed in women's football.
An Unplanned Birth Partnership
"I'll never forget Kate being there for me during such an important moment," Grider shared emotionally. "When we realised my husband couldn't make it in time, Kate immediately said she'd be by my side."
The 26-year-old athlete described how Lutkins, a seasoned AFLW player herself, provided both practical support and emotional reassurance throughout the labour process. "She was amazing - helping me with breathing techniques, keeping me calm, and even cutting the umbilical cord," Grider recalled.
