Tragic Death of Mother on Colombian Extreme Slide Ride

A young mother has died after a horrific accident on a high-thrill extreme slide ride in Colombia. Cristel Camila Garcia, aged 28, suffered fatal injuries when she crashed off the amusement park slide and fell approximately 15 feet to the ground below.

Details of the Fatal Incident

The tragic event occurred on Thursday at an amusement park in Chinacota, a small town located in Colombia's Norte de Santander department in the north-eastern region of the country. Ms Garcia was visiting the park with her family when she decided to ride the extreme slide, which had only opened to the public two weeks prior, on February 21.

According to reports, a male worker at the top of the slide told Ms Garcia 'don't be afraid' before she embarked on the near-vertical drop. She was then pushed on a tyre by a female colleague onto the slide, after asking: 'Will anyone be waiting for me?' Workers had assured her that she would end up in a swimming pool below the attraction.

Immediate Aftermath and Investigation

However, Ms Garcia quickly gained speed and flew off the slide at the first bend, suffering severe injuries, including to her head. She died on the way to the hospital. The attraction has been closed indefinitely while police conduct an ongoing investigation into the fatal accident.

Council chiefs confirmed that initial investigations revealed the slide had not been operating with the proper license, prompting its closure. In a statement, attraction operator Entre Flores expressed condolences and stated they had activated emergency protocols. They added: 'We wholeheartedly join them in their grief during this difficult time.' The company emphasized their commitment to cooperating with authorities.

Family's Anguish and Safety Concerns

Ms Garcia, whose full name was Yuris Cristel Camila Garcia Manrique, leaves behind a four-year-old daughter. A relative of the deceased woman insisted that no one from Entre Flores had contacted the family to offer assistance with funeral arrangements or support. The relative stated: 'We demand that the investigation be carried out properly and that they answer for Camila's life, because she lost her life in an establishment where there was no security.'

This tragic incident has raised serious questions about safety standards at amusement parks, particularly for extreme attractions. A promotional video released before the accident featured a female worker boasting: 'This is the only slide with a bend. Come and enjoy an extreme adventure with us.' The case underscores the critical importance of rigorous safety inspections and proper licensing for such high-risk rides.
