Liam Gallagher claims to know exactly how Manchester City will be punished for their breaches of financial regulations.
City, of whom the Oasis frontman is a die-hard fan, have dominated the back pages this week since it was revealed by The Athletic they had been found guilty of all bar one of the 115 charges of financial misconduct levelled against them by the Premier League.
Gallagher's Inside Line
Since then, speculation has been rife as to how they might be punished, with potential sanctions ranging from enforced relegation to the National League to fines and the stripping of the club’s titles.
Gallagher, though, claims to have the inside line on the legal proceedings.
Writing on X, formerly Twitter, he claimed to have held talks with “someone in a very high position.” Gallagher reported: “If we lose our appeal which we won’t we’ll be getting a FINE and TRANSFER BAN and that’s it so all [sic].”
Fan Reaction to the 'Scoop'
He then implored his fellow “desperate” and “neurotic” City fans to stop worrying about the club’s fate, adding: “Hush it up.”
Fans of City and their rivals, though, have taken a rather dim view of Gallagher’s ‘scoop’, which has left many bemused.
Referencing City’s potential relegation to League One, one fan responded: “Enjoy Doncaster (Rovers) away buddy.”
Another added: “Can’t wait to revisit this when the punishment is handed out!”
Punishment Timeline Unclear
City’s actual punishments are not expected to be revealed for quite some time, with due legal process still ongoing. City are expected to appeal any guilty verdict, which will further prolong proceedings.
