Everton's goal scored by Thierno Barry against Ipswich Town was ruled out after VAR judged Brennan Johnson to be offside, a decision the Key Match Incidents (KMI) panel supported by a narrow 3-2 split.
Referee Stuart Attwell initially awarded the goal, but was advised by VAR that Johnson was offside in front of Christian Walton. Barry thought he had headed Everton further ahead midway through the second half before the intervention.
Panel split on offside call
The panel believed VAR came to the correct decision, but only by the narrowest of margins. It decided Johnson was interfering with play, and that it was a clear and obvious error.
The Premier League released the panel's findings, which read: "Incident: KMI Goal awarded. Brennan Johnson in an offside position – not interfering with an opponent (58 min)".

The findings continued: "On-field decision outcome: Incorrect – offside offence by Johnson (2 votes for; 3 votes against)".
"VAR intervention outcome: Correct – clear and obvious error (3:2)".
"KMI Panel: The VAR intervention to disallow the goal for interfering with an opponent by Johnson was supported, 3:2. Johnson was clearly in an offside position, in very close proximity to the goalkeeper and makes a movement, impacting the goalkeeper’s ability to set and move to the ball. Two panellists felt that Johnson’s position and actions did not impact goalkeeper Walton."
