Asda has brought back a popular money-saving fuel deal, offering drivers 5p off every litre at 262 participating Asda and Asda Express fuel sites nationwide. The voucher is available to customers signed up to the supermarket's Rewards loyalty scheme.
The offer runs until Wednesday, October 14. Drivers receive the fuel coupon in the Rewards app when they spend £40 or more on a single transaction, and it can be redeemed on a single fuel purchase. The full list of participating stores is available on the Rewards app and on the supermarket's website.
Where the deal is available
According to an online check, the 5p-per-litre fuel coupon can be used at numerous Scottish sites, including Dundee, Dunfermline, Dyce, Elgin, Edinburgh, Galashiels, Grangemouth and more.
Asda says the deal could “save drivers up to £3 each time they full up a typical 60-litre family car.” The supermarket's monthly income tracker, which measures how much money households have left after paying taxes and essential bills, showed spending power growth slowed to 3.4 percent last month – the “weakest since March.”
Fuel prices at record high
The reintroduction comes as fuel costs have soared. The RAC said prices at the pumps had reached a “record high” following the ongoing war in the Middle East. The average price of a litre of diesel is now 199.18p, described as “the highest level in UK history.” Filling up a family car now costs £110, which is £31 more than at the start of the US/Iran conflict, according to the automotive service.
Petrol prices are also climbing, with a litre of unleaded costing on average around 174.13p. This is £41 more expensive than at the start of the war, taking the cost of a full tank to nearly £96.
Impact on households
RAC head of policy Simon Williams said: “The average price of a litre of diesel has now reached the highest level in UK history at 199.18p, in what will be a financial blow to households and businesses that use their vehicles regularly. The cost of filling up an average family car is now almost £110, £31 more than it was at the start of the US/Iran conflict. By eclipsing the previous highest price of 199.09p seen in June 2022, the diesel price has entered new uncharted territory. This spells pain not only at the pumps for drivers, but for everyone who buys goods or services that rely on diesel lorries and vans; undoubtedly these increased costs will be passed on to consumers.”
