Former Australian cricket star Stuart MacGill has broken his silence about the terrifying kidnapping ordeal that saw him abducted at gunpoint and threatened with having his fingers cut off in a Sydney underworld plot.
The Night That Changed Everything
In an emotional television interview, the 52-year-old spin bowling legend described the April 2021 incident that began when he was approached by a man he knew while walking near his home in the affluent Sydney suburb of Cremorne.
"I got in the car and then all of a sudden there was another two guys there," MacGill recalled, his voice trembling with the memory. "One of them put a gun to my head and said 'get in the f***ing car.'"
Four Hours of Terror
What followed was a nightmare journey to a remote property about an hour from Sydney, where MacGill was subjected to psychological torture and physical threats that would haunt any person.
"They said they were going to cut my fingers off," the former cricketer revealed, explaining how his captors specifically targeted his bowling hand. "They were going to cut my fingers off and then they were going to cut my toes off."
The kidnappers, who MacGill believes were connected to a major drug syndicate, demanded a substantial ransom for his release, though the exact amount remains undisclosed.
Surviving the Unthinkable
Throughout the four-hour ordeal, MacGill maintained his composure, engaging his captors in conversation and trying to understand their motives. "I was just trying to stay alive," he stated simply.
Remarkably, the cricket great was released physically unharmed but psychologically scarred. He managed to find his way to a nearby road and flag down help, beginning what would become a lengthy recovery process from the trauma.

The kidnapping investigation led to the arrest of several individuals, including MacGill's former brother-in-law Marino Sotiropoulos, who police allege helped orchestrate the abduction.
