Rain Secures Series Victory for India in Brisbane
A fierce storm over Brisbane's Gabba ground on Saturday led to the abandonment of the fifth and final Twenty20 international, handing India a 2-1 series victory over Australia. A Rollercoaster Series Journey
The series had its own share of weather and selection drama. The opening fixture in Canberra was also washed out, before Australia won the second T20 in Melbourne by four wickets, powered by paceman Josh Hazlewood. Australia subsequently withdrew Hazlewood and several other players for Ashes preparations, and India capitalised, winning the third match in Hobart by five wickets and securing a dominant 48-run victory in the fourth on the Gold Coast.
For his consistent performances, Abhishek Sharma was named Player of the Series, having scored 163 runs at an average of 40.75. Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav praised his team, stating, "The way everybody chipped in in every game and we came back from being one match down, I think credit goes to all the boys; a complete team effort."
This series win provides a significant confidence boost for India, who top the ICC T20 rankings, as they build towards defending the T20 World Cup on home soil early next year. Australian captain Mitch Marsh conceded, "I thought all in all it was a good series, two teams really going at it. India won the games when it mattered so congratulations to them."
