Mitchell Marsh stars as Australia thrash India in rain-hit ODI opener

Mitchell Marsh struck an unbeaten 46 as Australia crushed India by seven wickets in a rain-affected first one-day international in Perth. The hosts chased down a revised target of 131 in 21.1 overs to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

India had earlier stumbled to 136 for nine from 26 overs after four rain delays totalling nearly four hours. Virat Kohli was dismissed for a duck off eight balls, caught at gully off Mitchell Starc, a far cry from his Test century at the same ground 11 months ago.

Josh Hazlewood took two for 20, while debutant Mitch Owen claimed two wickets. KL Rahul top-scored for India with 38. Australia’s chase was briefly shaky at 44 for two, but Marsh and Josh Philippe (37) added 55 to steady the innings. Debutant Matt Renshaw finished unbeaten on 21.
