Tyson Fury will return to the ring on Saturday night at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, facing Russian heavyweight Arslanbek Makhmudov. The former world champion announced his comeback earlier this year, having retired for the fifth time in January 2025.
Fury has spoken openly about his struggle with bipolar disorder, stating that boxing gives him purpose. He said his only reason for returning is to 'make boxing great again', but his recent form includes back-to-back defeats to Oleksandr Usyk.
The heavyweight division has seen other veterans decline. Anthony Joshua was stopped by Daniel Dubois in September 2024, while Deontay Wilder narrowly beat Derek Chisora in a recent bout. Fury acknowledged the effect of age, saying after watching Wilder-Chisora: 'If I am [like that], please take me out to the field and shoot me.'
Makhmudov, a 37-year-old from Dagestan, has been stopped twice before and is considered a limited opponent. Fury's speed and ringcraft should prevail. Looking ahead, Fury has expressed interest in a trilogy with Usyk or a long-awaited bout with Joshua, though both options may lack the significance of past clashes.
