Tiger Woods was released on bail on Friday, hours after his Land Rover overturned in a crash and he was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, officials said. The 50-year-old golf star was alone in the vehicle when it clipped a truck and rolled onto its side on a narrow two-lane road near his home on Jupiter Island, Florida.
Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek said Woods was driving at a “high rate of speed” on a road with a 30mph limit when he attempted to overtake a truck that was slowing to turn into a driveway. The Land Rover clipped the truck’s trailer, veered off and came to rest on its driver’s side. Woods exited through the passenger side and showed signs of impairment, leading to roadside tests and his arrest.
A breath test showed no alcohol in his system, and investigators believe impairment was due to medication or drugs. No substances were found in the vehicle. Woods refused to submit to a urinalysis test and was charged with DUI with property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test. No injuries were reported.
This is the latest in a series of traffic incidents involving Woods. In 2021, he suffered severe leg injuries in a high-speed SUV crash in Los Angeles. He was also arrested for DUI in 2017 after being found asleep at the wheel, and crashed his SUV into a fire hydrant in 2009.
Woods has played a limited schedule recently due to multiple injuries and surgeries. He has not competed in an official PGA Tour event since July 2024, though he appeared in the TGL indoor league this week. His availability for next month’s Masters remains uncertain.
